How to make better decisions

Research has shown that making decisions is like using your muscles: the more you use them the more fatigued they get. Similarly, making decisions tires your willpower and ability to make clear and focused decisions. So, by the time you have an important decision to make that day you may already be ‘running on empty’ from all the decisions you’ve already made that morning: replying to texts or emails, what to wear, what to eat etc.

You can keep those decision making muscles energised by having a routine of good habits in the morning which will help you start the day with a positive intention and ‘a full tank’. Your willpower can only carry you so far before it needs rest, slowing down and impeding your decision making process. Having a good morning routine will already have taken care of those important tasks in your life – whatever they may be.

So what is a good morning routine?

Well, in essence it’s about taking control of your day and making things happen rather than just adjusting to a situation or waiting for something to happen. So, rather than react to a social media story or message from a friend as soon as you wake up, you might want to get up and ready yourself for the day. Maybe meditate, read, exercise, and journal your feeling of gratitude to name a few habits which allow you to be proactive.
